Teenager Sentenced To 8 Weeks In Prison For Traffic Violation

In her ruling, Mariam Kings, sentenced Mr Muhammed after he pleaded guilty to the crime and begged the court for leniency.
 
 
A Magistrates’ Court in Minna on Friday sentenced an 18-year-old, Yusuf Mohammed, to eight weeks in prison for violating traffic rules.

The police charged Mr Mohammed with four counts of dangerous driving, failing to obey traffic rules, driving without plate number and driving without side mirror.

In her ruling, Mariam Kings, sentenced Mr Muhammed after he pleaded guilty to the crime and begged the court for leniency.

Ms Kings, however, gave the convict an option to pay a fine of N8,000.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Aliyu Yakubu, told the court that the convict rode on an unregistered motorcycle and beat the traffic lights.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 35, 18, 36 and 54 of the road traffic regulations. (NAN)

Erins, who narrated the harrowing experience on Instagram, said the operatives led him to an Automated Teller Machine point and forced him to withdraw N200,000 from his account. The 35-year-old native of Edo State and his friend, a serving corps member in Lagos State, had gone to buy suya (roasted meat) in a Hyundai Sonata driven by Erins. As they made to enter the car after buying the suya, armed policemen reportedly wearing shirts with the inscriptions FSARS and Anti-Cultism, waylaid them with a danfo bus – a commercial vehicle. The US Consulate in Nigeria didn’t mince words in explaining the move: The total cost for a US citizen to obtain a visa to Nigeria was higher than the total cost for a Nigerian to obtain a comparable visa to the United States.   The imbalance had to be corrected. It’s a policy that can be rationalised. If a country’s citizens are not inferior to another’s, their visa application to that country should not be costlier than the other way.
